"The title for the work is a word play inspired by re-translation of work and accepted language through print. A project that originated from my own wanderings in which a carved floor sculpture could be walked over, had now been translated as a block print for wall display. The print itself was created by walking over the 'striated paths' carving which is faced down like a stamp, so as to carry on the physical performance of the initial project of walking over the sculpture. Hence the conjunctive title wan|der|wand. Reflecting the action of printing onto surface; of translation from one language of expression to another. This walking the wall becomes a realised action inseparable from its meaning and in 'doing' so, creates this word. The work also references the history of the WCS gallery which housed the carving (a building previously used for printing) and the stylistic interpretations of Die Brücke prints". |
