abstract
The ‘Maintenance Work’ work of Mirielle Laderman Ukeles was used as a trajectory towards analysing issues concerning health care, socially embedded artists and employment. This paid particular focus to the UK’s National Health Service in an attempt to contextualise its current situation as economically under threat through relevant contemporary artistic struggles. Deleuze’s notion of a creative act as a form of resistance to death, achievable among society and not just artistic privilege, aims to relate such creative emancipations through artistic and health practitioners where care becomes this creative act. Cases were made between contemporaries such as feminist collective ‘Precarias a la deriva’ and ‘Occupy Museums’ whilst attempting to scan the potentials and problems behind self-organisation, embeddedness and work precarity. Specifically, as care towards life is presented as economically exhaustive, a world which resists economic determinism is sought.
